Police Arrests 'One Chance' Robbers In Abuja

No fewer than four men have been arrested by the The FCT Police Command over their alleged involvement in “one chance” robbery.

In accordance with police,the Police, the suspects identified as Onyebuchi Ifeanyikwu ‘m’ 40 years, Anthony Sunday ‘m’ 35 years and Usman Ali ‘m’ 19 years and Sani Bala ‘m’ 19 years, specialise in robbing their victims of valuables and using dangerous weapons to inflict injuries on them.

Some of the items recovered from them include female under-wears, four sharp knives, one nail, one wood containing a nail, one screw driver, one infinix phone, some jewelries, one bag containing women clothes belonging to one of their victims and a golden colour Honda Accord car with registration no: FST 662 BG.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, the FCT command spokesperson, DSP Anjuguri Manzah said:

“On 10 November, 2018 at about 0200hrs following a discreet investigation, operatives of the Anti-One Chance Squad arrested one Onyebuchi Ifeanyikwu ‘m’ 40 years and Anthony Sunday ‘m’ 35 years at their hideouts in Tungan Maje.

“The suspects robbed and inflicted serious injuries on a lady who boarded their car as a passenger en-route Nyanya from Arab road Kubwa on 9th November, 2018 at about 0530hrs.

“Few minutes into the journey, the suspects diverted their victim to Zuba axis where she was robbed of her cash, phone, two ATM cards and other valuables before she was abandoned. She was rescued and taken to Police hospital Deidei Barracks where she was treated and discharged.”

When interrogated, one of the paraded suspect gave an account of how they carry out their operation.

“On 2nd November, 2018 at about 0900hrs following a compliant, Police operatives from the Command Anti-One Chance Squad arrested Ali and Bala who operate in a tricycle to rob unsuspecting members of the public. The suspects were arrested after one of their victims who were robbed by the gang at Gwarimpa axis complained to the Police operatives,” he said.

The Police said the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

EFCC Charged To Probe Umar Ganduje, The Kano State Governor Over Bribe

A political country in the country, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to begin an investigation into bribery allegations leveled against the Kano State Governor Umar Ganduje.

Videos online purport to show the governor taking bribes on different occasions.

A Kano High Court restrained the state House of Assembly from further investigating the matter pending the determination of the originating summons. It adjourned hearing till November 21, 2018.

The umbrella organisation of all registered political parties said: “The burden of proof that the President Muhammadu Buhari government is covering corrupt members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is heavier now with the Federal Government’s continued silence over the allegations against the governor.”

In a statement by CNPP Secretary General Willy Ezugwu, the organisation said: “We are left to believe that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari and the EFCC under Mr. Ibrahim Magu only fight corruption in states with opposition leadership. Not a few Nigerians have argued that the APC is a hiding place for corrupt politicians and a cover for looters who want respite from the anti-graft agencies under the current Federal Government.

“We are totally behind the position of the state House of Assembly that the courts cannot stop it from carrying out its legislative duties and urge the lawmakers to conclude the investigation without fear or favour.

“It is shocking that instead of taking advantage of the fair hearing offered the governor by the state Assembly, Governor Ganduje chose to approach the court to stop the probe.

“Even when the Assembly offered the governor the liberty to appear before its seven-man investigative panel, the governor chose the dishonourable path by going for a black market order from the Kano State High Court, instead of proving his innocence before the committee.

“We are more worried that the EFCC has turned the other way while the presidency has said that the issue didn’t bother it. We therefore demand an immediate commencement of a full investigation into the allegations by the EFCC within 14 days or (it would) be legally compelled to do so.”

But Magu at a press briefing yesterday evaded a reporter’s enquiry on the videos. Asked what he made of them, he replied: “Next question, please.”

59-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide After Loosing Church Money

A 59-year-old man, known as Julius Numa, reportedly committed suicide over stolen N600,000 harvest fund which was kept with him.

It was gathered that he had sent out a text message to his friends and relatives requesting for financial help or he would kill himself before committing suicide in his room in Oton Delta State.

A family source disclosed that the hanging body of the father of 11 children was found in his apartment by his daughter, who had gone to check him around evening.

“We suspected he must have killed himself over a harvest fund of N600,000 that was stolen from him weeks back.

“He was in charge of the harvest fund in the church and a few weeks back he was robbed by some boys at the Oton area of Sapele where the church is located, and since then he has been acting strange,” the source said.

Numa was said to have sent a text message to some of his friends and relatives on Wednesday, threatening to kill himself if they did not help him with finance to offset some of his debt.

“Some of the children even promised to help out this week, only for us to hear that he had killed himself” the source added.

A source at the Sapele Police Station confirmed the story to newsmen, saying “one Numa Julius of Okpe Road was reported to have committed suicide, when we visited the scene, we saw the body dangling.

“We were not able to bring him down yesterday, but we learned he has been buried this afternoon (yesterday).” He said the case was being investigated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Man Sentenced To 14 Hours Of Community Service For Stealing 3 Tubers Of Yam In Lagos

A magistrate court in Ejigbo, Lagos State has sentenced a suspect to 14 hours of community service for stealing three tubers of yam at Ikotun market.

The suspect, 26-year-old Okon Happiness, was rumored to have entered a store within the market closely-held by one Kehinde Lawanson and took away the yams valued at N2,100.

Luck, however, ran out for him when Lawanson, after seeing him setting out of her shop and out of the market with the items raised alarm.

A mob chased him, caught him and handed him over to the police at Ikotun Division.

Okon was arraigned before the court presided over by Teslimi Shomade on a one-count charge of stealing.

He pleaded guilty to the offence, saying he stole the items because he was hungry.

Prosecuting Counsel, Kenneth Asibor, said the complainant refused all entreaties to settle the matter, insisting that it be charged to court.

The defendant pleaded for leniency, promising not to repeat the act.

Magistrate Shomade convicted him and directed that he should serve his sentence on the court premises.

Sad! 2 Kids And A Dog Found Dead In Deep Freezer

It was a sad day in Ikorodu area of Lagos on Sunday afternoon after the dead body of two kids and a dog was found in a deep freezer.

The incident occurred at Number 2 Christian Onoja Street, Igbogbo in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Development area at 4.30pm.

A neighbour told newsmen that the kids, Emmanuel Edeh, seven years and Darasimi Edeh, female, four years and their father, Mr Michael Edeh, were at home on the day of the incident.

“On Sunday afternoon, we were alerted by their father who emerged from within the house asking about the whereabouts of his children.

“We were surprise because their father is always at home with the kids when their mother goes about her trading.

“So, when their father came asking us (neighbours) about where his children were, we all began to search the neighbourhood for them, but could not find them,’’ the source, said.

“Their mother was visibly disturbed upon arrival and immediately began to search for them, this time, in the house.

“After a while she came wailing that she discovered the lifeless body of children and their dog inside the freezer,’’ the source added.

It was gathered that the children were taken to a hospital within the community, but were told that the children had passed-on which prompted the incident being reported at the Igbogbo Police Division on Sunday evening.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said the Commissioner of Police had been informed about the incident.

“I have confirmed the matter and the CP directed that the father of the deceased be brought to notice to know his ulterior motive or whether it is an act of negligence,” he said.

Why Davido Was Denied Access To Stage A Concert At Eko Atlantic Revealed

It is no more news that award winning singer, Davido was denied access to perform his concert at Eko Atlantic but the latest is the reason behind the action.

The 'Assurance' crooner took to his Twitter account this morning and rant about the situation. Meanwhile, a little dig into the situation revealed.

"After a little digging as to why he was banned from using the venue, it was discovered his denial may not be unconnected with his support for his uncle, and PDP gubernatorial candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The Eko Atlantic is a planned city of Lagos State, Nigeria, being constructed on land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean.

The location is becoming a favorite venue for musical concerts. This December, super star, Wizkid is holding a concert at the same venue.

In 2017, Davido was invited to perform at the Eko Atlantic Festival, put together by the Lagos state government. So the fact that he was disapproved to using the venue just might have to do with election primaries that happened months ago.

When his uncle, Senator Adeleke lost, Davido openly chastised the APC led government, accusing them of rigging the election.

The APC even mocked the singer by inviting him to perform at the inauguration ceremony of the new governor who beat his uncle at the elections.

Weeks later, Davido and his girlfriend, Chioma paid a visit to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

His actions obviously didn’t sit well with the APC-led government, hence the decision to deny him access to the venue. All approvals for concerts at the Eko Atlantic goes through the Lagos state government, which is an APC led government.

Be that as it may, this insinuates that there is a silent battle between the APC and Davido."

Business Man Arrested For Defiling A 17-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

One Mr. James Elewenson, has been arraigned before the Candide Johnson Magistrates’ Courthouse for s*xual abuse on a 17-year-old girl in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Elewenson runs a boutique where the victim worked as a sales girl. It was alleged that 37-year-old Elewenson had on several occasions made s*xual advances to the victim.

The victim, who started working with Elewenson on October 6, 2018, was allegedly r*ped that same month. The victim alleged that on the day the she was r*ped, Elewenson told her to help him re-arrange his bedroom located inside the same building as the boutique, followed her into the room, locked the door and forcefully had intercourse with her.

It was learnt that the victim bled profusely after the incident. The victim was said to have confided in her neighbour, who saw her crying afterwards, as she could not tell her parents.

Encouraged by the neighbour, the victim subsequently reported the matter at the police station. In her statement to the police, the victim narrated, “On the day he (Elewenson) first attempted raping me, I was in the other room to wear a gown for one of the dummy when he came in and started touching me. He pulled up my gown and forcefully removed my pant, pushed me to the wall and as he was about to penetrate, he noticed that his brother was around, so he stopped.

“He warned me not to tell anyone and also threatened that if I stopped coming to the shop, he would lie against me that I stole from him. He said he would get me and my parents arrested. It was a serious pain for me as I could not tell anyone.

“The day the incident (r*pe) occured, he instructed me to clean his room and that I must be done before he came back; but unfortunately, he came back before I could finish the task. He entered the room, locked the door and r*ped me.

I shouted but all to no avail, because he had raised the volume of the music so that no one could hear. I couldn’t tell my parents because he had threatened that he would get me arrested by claiming that I stole his money.”

Elewenson, however, denied the allegation in his statement to the police, stating, “I did not send her on any errand to my room; I do not have a television or a radio set in my room; there was no time that I slapped her or did anything to her.”

The suspect was arraigned on three counts bordering on assault and defilement.

The charges read in part, “That you, James Elewenson, on October 27, 2018, at about noon on Allison Street, Ikorodu Garage, in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did defile one (name withheld), thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”

The presiding magistrate, Mrs F. A. Azeez, remanded the suspect in prison as his plea was not taken. The case was adjourned till December 6, 2018.
