Learn How To Make Delicious Moi Moi From Corn by Fgreen(m) : 11:25 pm On May 03, 2017

Moi moi made from beans is clearly more popular than those made from other food items. I am certain that only a few people are aware that Moi moi can be made from corn. Well, if you are just hearing this for the very first time, then you are on your way to learning a very simple step by step method that will help you add variety to you daily meal plan.

Corn Moi moi or corn cake is also known as Nni Oka, Igbankwu Oka and Ekoki, amongst other names. The meal is usually used to entertain guests particularly during traditional ceremonies.

Ingredients For Corn Moi Moi
10 pieces Fresh corn still on its cobs.
2 big sizes of Onions and Scotch bunnet pepper (Ata rodo) to taste.
Two handfuls of Crayfish, 2 big sizes of smoked fish and a tin of fresh prawn.
Water and 4-5 cooking spoon of Palm oil (Until the mixture turns yellow). Usually corn absorbs more palm oil than beans.
Cube seasoning and Salt to tast Usually 1 -3 cubes of seasoning will be fine.
Method Of Preparation
Peel of the husk and hair-like strands. Then remove the corn seeds from the cobs and get them washed properly.
Pour the corn seeds into a powerful blender, add small amount of water; to ease the movement of the blender’s blade. Add pepper, chopped onions and the cooked or steamed fresh prawns
Blend until completely smooth.
Pour into a big bowl.
Add palm oil, pieces of de-boned smoked fish, crayfish, cube seasoning and water to dilute the solution slightly just like you would do to to the regular Moi moi. Then stir properly. You could also add other food items to make the cake rich.
Portion into small containers or folded leaves or heat-resistant nylon and place each of them into a pot half filled with boiling water on a cooker. Do not forget to seal the each of the containers.
Cook for between 45 minutes to 1 hour. By that time, the solution should have solidified and ready.
Place on tray and allow cooling.
Your corn cake or corn Moi moi is ready to be served. Enjoy it!

Learn How To Make Isi-Ewu (Goat Head Meat Soup) At Home by Fgreen(m) : 11:33 pm On May 03, 2017

I have never for once come to agree with myself on which part of Nigeria has the best soups especially considering the array of soups that are peculiar among the Easterners and the South southerners. You will agree with me that it is a tough competition between these groups of people. While I ponder about this in my small apartment, a female friend who came visiting had a cooler of Isi-Ewu with her.

As I ate a plate of the meaty soup, I could not but ask for more and I felt it would be nice to get the recipe from her and share with you on this platform. Isi- Ewu is made from goat head and I bet a bite will surely convince you to eat more.

How To Cook (Prepare) Isi-ewu (Goat Head Soup)
Here are the ingredients that you need with instructions to prepare your own Isi-ewu at home. Follow the recipe/guide step by step and you are sure to make a delicious pot of Isi-ewu.

The Ingredients For Isi-Ewu
One goat head
2 big Onions bulbs,
2-3 roasted calabash nutmeg,
4 pieces of habenero peppers (Ata rodo),
2 meat flavour seasoning cubes and salt to taste.
20cl or 200ml of Palm oil
Enough water to cook the meat
Tyme, curry and potash (Kaun)
Ground crayfish and sliced Utazi leaves
Note: The utazi leaf is included to add some bitter flavour to the Isi-Ewu while potash (kaun) is added to make the palm oil curdle up.

Pre-Cooking Step In Making Isi-Ewu
Get your goat head chopped into smaller pieces. This could be done by the meat sellers. Wash the entire meat pieces properly using foam and iron sponge to remove dirt particularly in the ears and tongue part. Keep aside.
Wash and slice the fresh utazi leaves into tiny pieces just like you would do for your vegetables and set aside.
Soak a tea spoon of potash or kaun in small amount of water, let it dissolve well and sieve the water; then set aside the water.
Peel, wash and slice one onion bulb into ring forms and set aside.
Blend the other onion bulb and pepper into pasty form. Add only little amount of water if you must blend. It is better if you can pound them. Set aside.

Main Cooking Steps (Instructions)
Place the goat meat pieces into a large pot and place on a cooker
Pour a little amount of water just enough to cook the meat. This is because there is no need for stock water. Add the two cube seasonings, a tea spoon each of thyme and curry. Cook for about 20 minutes.
Add salt and let it simmer for another 10 minutes. When the meat pieces are tender enough, set aside.
In another pot, add palm oil, pour the sieved water of the potash slowly into the pot containing palm oil and stir using a wooden spatula until the oil turns completely yellow.
Add two table spoons of crayfish and stir.
Add the grounded (Ehu seeds) calabash nut meg, grounded or blended onions and pepper (to taste) and less than a handful of sliced utazi leaves. Stir properly.
Pour the cooked goat head meat pieces into this mixture and stir well.
Place on cooker and let it simmer for few minutes under low heat until it is piping hot. Do not forget to cover the pot during the cooking process.
Your Isi Ewu is ready to be served!

In many Nigerian restaurants, Isi Ewu is served in a calabash or some wooden material with a sprinkle of small quantity of onion rings and some slices of fresh Utazi leaves on it. This makes it very native and colourful. I bet you will love it. In less than 1hour, you should be done with the entire process of making this native meal.

I sincerely hope you will find this recipe helpful.

Lanre Gentry pleads as Mercy Aigbe obtains restraining order by Fgreen(m) : 11:54 pm On May 03, 2017

It’s no news that Mercy Aigbe and her husband, Lanre Gentry have been in the media lately no thanks to their troubled marriage.

Despite attempts by the couple to show to the world that rumours surrounding their marriage are exaggerated, the Nollywood actress has secured a restraining order against her estranged husband.

Lanre Gentry has now been ordered by a court not to come within one mile of Mercy Aigbe’s location at all times.

The restraining order obtained by Mercy Aigbe

This came after a photo showing the actress’ face beaten to a pulp by her husband surfaced online.

Sources close to Mercy Aigbe’s camp told Thenetng that since the restraining order got to Lanre Gentry, he’s been pleading with a series of text messages.

‘He has been begging her in secret, but we are surprised to see that he is just denying the fact that he beat her up all over social media. He hasn’t seen the last of this,’ our well placed source said.

Mary J. Blige giving Rihanna a kiss is cuteness overload by Fgreen(m) : 1:02 am On May 04, 2017

We can't ever get over this.

Mary J. Blige and Rihanna

In an alternate reality, this would be a hugely successful mother giving her trend-setting daughter a ‘well done’ kiss.

But then again, isn’t that what a legend like Mary J. Blige would be to a star like Rihanna?

Review: ‘Ovy’s Voice’ featuring #BBNaija’s Bisola is a very fine blend by Fgreen(m) : 2:21 am On May 04, 2017

'Ovy’s Voice' is shot in three locations only; Ovy’s house, Anaan’s house and Ovie’s shop.

Ovy’s Voice explores the life of Ovy, a physically challenged 27-year-old make-up artist who is trying to navigate the challenges that come with her muteness situation by avoiding love altogether.

She lives with her cousin, YV, and connects so well with her clients that they keep coming back. One of them is Mrs G, a party-loving, well-to-do Yoruba woman in her fifties, who is bent on finding a ‘nice husband’ for Ovy because she thinks the young woman is a ray of sunshine.

When Ovy meets Mrs G’s son, Anaan, by chance, she is reminded of a terrible episode she had with him once where he mistook her for a beggar and instantly dislikes him.

The feeling is mutual until Anaan finds out about her disability. He feels guilty, and while trying to make peace, he develops feelings for her that would change the course of everyone’s life.

The unfamiliar angle of seeing life from the point of view of a physically challenged person is one of the many things that make this story fly. This is supposed to be the theme, and we are oh so loving it until we see it switch from that to abuse.

Jarring as that is, and maybe slightly distracting too, the writer cum producer, Biodun Stephen, wields the story such that we are only lost for a moment. We arrive at a fairly satisfying resolution, even though we cannot forgive the writer for not seeing the disability perspective through.

It would have been a greater story if it focused on speaking for people living and triumphing in spite of physical limitations. Then the title would have had a deeper meaning and the perspective would be richer. But it is what it is.

Ovy’s Voice is shot in three locations only; Ovy’s house, Anaan’s house and Ovie’s shop, yet there isn’t a lag or lull, and we are glued to it, following the story like our lives depend on it. Doing it all with only four major characters makes this even more interesting.

Bisola Aiyeola plays Ovy, and is fantastic at it. We find her playing a speech-impaired character believably and without words, giving a tear-jerking performance.

Shaffi Bello is Mrs G, and she deviates from the prim and proper Queen’s-English-speaking mother we are used to and portrays a typical Lagos mama who understands the streets but lives outside it. Bello brings the humour in this film effortlessly.

Uche Obodo plays YV. Her chemistry with Bisola is fluid. Mofe Duncan plays Anaan, and while he doesn’t try too hard, his effort is just enough.

These four bring the story so much life that we are quick to forget the shortcoming that is the illegible text messages they exchange. No, we do not forget, we just forgive it.

Because we don’t hear Ovy’s voice until much later, we are left at the mercy of the written subtitles, but half of these escape us, making some parts hard to follow.

The theme songs are brilliant. From Johnny Drille’s sultry voice in his superb cover of Di’ja’s ‘Aww’, to Bisola’s ‘Turn out the lights’, to Gabriel Afolayan’s ‘Kokoro Ife’, the repertoire of songs is sweet and fitting.

The locations are cool, the cinematography uses colours we don’t want to take our eyes away from, the make-up studio could use a few more customers, and YV’s reactions could be truer-to-life.

The director, Dimeji Ajibola, knows where he is taking the film to, and takes us along with him, and by the end of the film, you feel like you have just consumed a plate of Nigerian jollof. One without chicken though.

Ovy’s Voice is a brilliant attempt, and it doesn’t leap over loops to be. It is a fine blend of a good story, great acting and smooth directing. It is a 2017 film.

Can a young woman just get a decent show?! by Fgreen(m) : 3:13 am On May 04, 2017

Shows about single women and s*x shouldn’t be so boring though…

Mary Remmy is a married woman. She has been married for a few years now. And that is probably why she doesn’t know how we single women function anymore.

Before I continue, I am a sucker for romcoms, chic flicks featuring sexy shirtless men. Actually, sexy men in and out of clothes. And, in my opinion, they’re the easiest to make and you can never go wrong with them.

The romcoms/chic flicks, guys. Not the sexy men.

But how shows/films in the aforementioned genres still end up boring is puzzling. On Sunday, April 30, I stumbled on Rok TV‘s Single Ladies.

I had learned about the show, read an unfavourable review and seen a poster of all the leading ladies on Instagram.

A poster featuring each woman with the same contoured nose. I should have taken that as a warning sign. This show isn’t for people like me. But still, I refused to pre-judge it.

As you may have already guessed, Single Ladies is a show about single women in Lagos, finding men, definitely getting laid, blah blah blah….

Basically, it’s s*x and the City kinda ish. It’s supposed to be fun and flirty. Interesting even when annoying. And above all, it’s supposed to make you feel something. And more, feel for the characters.

It’s mostly about grown ass single women in Lagos, Nigeria after all and most single women have a few things in common.

However, a couple of scenes with a badly made up, Annie Idibia and more ‘up and down’ scenes with confusing emotions and I was like, egbami. What exactly is going on here?

As if that wasn’t enough, we watch Annie Idibia go from scene to scene, whining about looking for a man to pose as her fiance. This she needs so her mother who will be visiting in days will meet a Fiance she’d previously lied existed.

Okay…

At this point, one wonders if she cannot simply tell her mother they broke up? Or why this is such a big issue that has to be spread across an entire episode when there are more interesting issues the Writer could have thrown at her characters?

Why was there an exaggerated case of a missing Fiance?

After all the issues women face – v*gina issues, uterus issues, toilet disease, hike in the prices of sanitary towels and this is all an entire episode is filled with? :/

But the creator hasn’t been in this market (real life single lady’s club) for a while, so for that, we’d forgive her.

For this season at least.

Reps move to address HIV/AIDS spread in IDP camps by Fgreen(m) : 4:20 am On May 04, 2017

The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to investigate reports of spread of HIV/AIDS in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps across the country. This was sequel to a motion by Rep. Aishatu Dukku (Gombe- APC) at plenary in Abuja.

Moving the motion, Dukku said recent records from Borno State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (BOSACA) showed that 512 new cases of HIV infections were recorded at the IDPs camps in the state.

She said that official records had earlier shown that no fewer than 5, 000 IDPs in 27 camps were living with the virus.

The legislator said that the report also revealed that none of the camps was providing HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, anti-retroviral refills or continuous counselling.

According to her, only a portion of those infected with the virus can access treatment. Dukku said that only 32 of the 90 anti-retroviral centres in the state were still operational.

She said the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response (SPHERE) recommended the provision of anti-retroviral drugs to IDPs or refugees as minimum standard for health services in crisis situations.

Dukku expressed concern over the rate of sexual abuse, harassment and exploitation of the IDPs by unscrupulous camp officials.

She alleged that rape also perpetrated by members of the host communities and older IDPs were largely responsible for the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) ravaging the camps.

Unanimously, the lawmakers voted to investigate the development. In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, mandated committees on Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees, Initiative on North-East Zone, and Healthcare Services to investigate the matter.

Dogara urged the committees to make urgent and appropriate recommendations on ways to ameliorate the spread of the virus and report back within four weeks.

Businessman arraigned for punching woman to death by Fgreen(m) : 4:58 am On May 04, 2017

middle-aged businessman, Kingsley Oshiegbu, was on Wednesday in Lagos arraigned for beating a woman to death during an argument. Oshiegbu was charged with manslaughter before an Ikeja High Court.

The State Prosecutor, Mr M.T Adewoye, told the court that the accused on April 1, 2015 punched Miss Ifeoma Ndidi, to death at No. 7, Majaro St., Agege, Lagos.

“The defendant had a verbal misunderstanding with the deceased which led to a heated exchange of words as well as insults. “Angered by Ndidi’s insults, Oshiegbu punched her on the head which led to her collapse and eventual death,” the prosecutor said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence was contrary to Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

Oshiegbu’s defence counsel, Mr Shaw Jason, in a bail application, appealed to the court to grant bail to the accused on liberal terms. “I wish to also notify the court that the defendant has been in prison custody for the past two years,” Jason said.

Justice Hakeem Oshodi adjourned the matter until June 26 for ruling on the bail application and trial.

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg To Hire 3000 More Moderators, Guess Why? by Fgreen(m) : 9:02 pm On May 04, 2017

Facebook says it will hire another 3,000 people to review videos of crime and suicides following murders shown live. That’s on top of the 4,500 people Facebook already has for such reviews.

The announcement comes from CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a blog post Wednesday.

According to him, "Over the last few weeks, we've seen people hurting themselves and others on Facebook -- either live or in video posted later. it's heartbreaking, and I've been reflected on how we can do better for our community"

He also added that, "Over the next year, we'll be adding 3,000 people to our community operations team around the world -- on top of the 4,500 we have today to review the millions of reports we get every week, and improve the process for doing it quickly".

Facebook has been criticized recently for not doing enough to prevent videos — such as a murder in Cleveland, a killing of a baby in Thailand — from spreading on its service.

Videos and posts that glorify violence are against Facebook’s terms of service. But in most cases, users have to report them to the company for them to be reviewed and possibly removed.

Harrysong,Kcee and Skibii spotted at Lekki by Fgreen(m) : 9:32 pm On May 04, 2017

There is a popular saying that whatsoever has a beginning has an end,and it seems so for the Five Star Music label mates. Earlier this year there was a feud between "Reggae Blues crooner" Harrysong and Five Star Music And the beef went on which saw them exchanging words on social media.

Harrysong claimed that it was actually Kcee who begged him on ‘bended knees’ to help save his already dying career. Harrysong was however ‘arrested’ by Five Star music and shortly after his release, the record label also claimed that the Reggae Blues crooner had profusely begged Kcee to sign him into the label some years ago,it was one tantrum after another which led to comments all across major social media platforms.

But guess what?hmmm it seems that these guys have finally decided to give peace a chance, Harrysong and his other label mates, Skibii and Kcee were spotted at Le Paris hotel in Lekki having lunch which obviously means these guys have made up and settled their differences.

It should be recalled that Harrysong succeeded in recreating Kcee’s sound, as he wrote and co – produced hit songs like ‘Had it been I know’, ‘Okpekete’, ‘Limpopo’, ‘Pull Over’ and other songs that has defined the Kcee that everyone now knows and celebrates today.

Mr & Mrs. 2: A sequel no one asked for to a film nobody remembers by Fgreen(m) : 10:26 pm On May 04, 2017

Seems the filmmakers’ intention was to have an unsatisfying and lazy ending to the subplots of the film.

That is the most appropriate way to describe Mr. & Mrs. 2. It borrows the broadest ideas from the original 2012 film and takes everything up a few notches to its own detriment.

In an attempt to double down and do a lot more in this film than in the original, the filmmakers bit off more than they could chew and produced a disappointing hodgepodge of a film that fails on way too many fronts.

In this film, we follow three couples as they go through one rough patch or the other in their relationships.

First, we have got Kobi and Sharon played by Chidi Mokeme and Rita Dominic respectively.

They are a married couple with two teenage children and their lives seem to be very comfortable; they’ve got a big house with a ton of domestic staff.

Chidi Mokeme and Rita are the lead characters in the sequel

Their relationship starts to strain when Sharon becomes the sole breadwinner as Kobi can no longer provide for his family because his daddy can’t afford to give him an allowance anymore due to the EFCC freezing his assets in relation to a corruption investigation.

So basically, Kobi doesn’t have a job and lives off handouts from his corrupt politician father, and an audience is expected to empathise with him and his situation.

Added to this story, we have KJ, their perfectly normal looking son being a cocaine addict who owes a drug dealer almost a million naira, and we have their daughter, Ivy, who is starting to come to the realisation that she is a lesbian. This doesn’t seem excessive at all.

We also have Kobi’s father, Senator Dede (Akin Lewis) and his new, young wife, Lami (Tana Adelana). Dede is a politician who is trying to cover his tracks for some corrupt practices.

His plan goes sideways and the EFCC freezes all his assets just before he gets married to his second wife, Lami. With his assets frozen, Lami convinces Dede to live on a budget and sell his home to be able to keep their heads above water.

However, this plot point is never mentioned again and Dede and Lami just continue living their lives as if they have no money issues at all.

The final twosome in this film is Timi (Steve ‘Yaw’ Onu) and Zola (Muna Abii), an engaged couple who are in the middle of planning their wedding. Zola is over the moon about the engagement, but Timi seems to not really care about a lot of things. This causes them to have repetitive arguments in every other scene that they are together in.

All these stories are jumbled together with the help of average acting, shoddy camera work and shambolic editing that cuts every scene right before important information is about to be conveyed.

Not enough attention is paid to any of the stories in Mr. & Mrs. 2 for anyone to have a care about what happens to the characters and the film cuts maniacally from one scene to the next without any real purpose or drive just so it can accommodate the overload of story that it is trying (and failing) to cram into its less than two-hour runtime.

It gets so bad that some stories are just straight up forgotten. One example is the Dede/Lami financial trouble story. Another example is Ivy realising she is a lesbian story.

Mr. & Mrs. 2 set up over a couple of scenes that Ivy is gay, but after she reveals her sexual orientation to her mother (who, by the way, thinks she is joking), the issue is never spoken of again and the story abruptly ends.

Was it the filmmakers’ intention to have an unsatisfying and lazy ending to these subplots or were they just so overwhelmed by the balancing act that is this film that they completely forgot to tie the knot on their stories? My guess is, the latter is true.

Mr. & Mrs. 2 is like a man trying to balance a tray on his head filled with half a dozen women balancing trays on their heads filled with 10-feet tall cakes while the man rides a unicycle on a tightrope in the middle of a hurricane. The man is clearly taking on more than he can handle and his balancing act can only lead to one outcome: failure.
