Re: Coronavirus: U.S. faces ”hardest & saddest week” by Chibuzo22(m) : 2:51 am On Apr 07, 2020

[quote=atoluwash]

The United States is entering what a senior official warned on Sunday would be the “hardest” week of the coronavirus crisis as the death toll mounted, but some saw glimmers of hope from a slight slowing of fatalities in hard-hit New York.

New York, the epicenter of the U.S. coronavirus outbreak, reported on Sunday that for the first time in a week, deaths had fallen slightly from the day before. But there were still nearly 600 new fatalities and more than 7,300 new cases in the state.

Louisiana has become a hot spot for the virus, reporting a jump in deaths to nearly 500 and more than 13,000 cases. The governor predicted the state would run out of ventilators by Thursday.

Places such as Pennsylvania, Colorado and Washington, D.C., are also starting to see rising deaths.

“This is going to be the hardest and the saddest week of most Americans’ lives, quite frankly. This is going to be our Pearl Harbor moment, our 9/11 moment, only it’s not going to be localized,” U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams warned on Fox News on Sunday.

“It’s going to be happening all over the country. And I want America to understand that.”

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Sunday that new hospitalizations had fallen by 50% over the previous 24 hours.

He cautioned that it was not yet clear whether the crisis was reaching a plateau in the state, which has a total of 4,159 deaths and more than 122,000 cases, by far the most of any U.S. state.

Nationally, cases the respiratory disease topped 336,000, while the death toll stood at 9,573, according to a Reuters tally.

Cuomo said that once the peak of the epidemic passed, a mass rollout of rapid testing would be critical to help the nation “return to normalcy.”

President Donald Trump said the country faced a “great hour of grief,” but expressed hope that deaths could be “leveling off” in New York.

“We see light at the end of the tunnel. Things are happening,” he told reporters.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of Trump’s coronavirus task force, said it took weeks for efforts like social distancing and stay-at-home orders to slow the virus’ spread.

“What you’re hearing about potential light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t take away from the fact that tomorrow, the next day, are going to look really bad,” Fauci told reporters.

Most states have ordered residents to stay home except for essential trips to slow the spread of the virus in the United States

But eight states, all of them with Republican governors, have yet to order residents to stay home: Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.

Georgia, which has recorded 6,600 cases and more than 200 deaths, ordered residents to stay home but then allowed some beaches to reopen.

Republican Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson defended his refusal to order statewide restrictions, saying the situation was being watched closely and that his more “targeted approach” was still slowing the spread of the virus.

Adams, the surgeon general, said governors who had not issued month-long stay-at-home orders should at least consider one for the upcoming week.

White House medical experts have forecast that between 100,000 to 240,000 Americans could be killed in the pandemic, even if sweeping orders to stay home are followed.

A few churches held large gatherings on Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week in Christian churches.

Pastor Tony Spell, who was arrested last week for holding services, summoned his faithful again, three weeks after Louisiana banned gatherings of 10 people or more.

Oregon, which has reported around 1,000 cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, said it was sending New York 140 ventilators, machines that help people breathe after the virus attacks their lungs. Washington is returning over 400 of the machines to the Strategic National Stockpile for hard-hit states like New York.

New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said the city had enough ventilators to get through Tuesday or Wednesday, and he was seeking between 1,000 and 1,500 more from federal and state stockpiles, which he estimated had 10,000 and 2,800, respectively.

Adele's request to keep the details of her £140million divorce private after her split from charity entrepreneur, Simon Konecki has reportedly been granted by a court in Los Angeles.

“They are both committed to keeping the details as private as possible for the sake of their son. They are trying to work out their issues.”

'She talks about last year as a very difficult year, and she's said in the past that creating new music is almost like therapy. You can tell that she is ready to share with her fans.'

jadoo51:

Actress Funke Akindele-Bello who was arrested on Sunday April 5th by the Lagos state police command for flouting the social distancing order of the Lagos state government, spent the night at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID office in Panti, Lagos.

A police source who confirmed this, said the actress's husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, who was not availabe when she was picked up has turned himself in and is currently with her in Panti. The police source added that they would be arraigned in court this morning.

Singer Naira Marley and other guests at the party who the police have asked to report at the SCID for questioning are still being awaited.

The Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020, prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for any one found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

The regulation act in part reads

“Where there is a violation of a closedown or stay-at-home order, security agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person, who violates the closedown or stay-at-home order, for at least 48 hours.

“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of N100,000 or one month imprisonment or three months’ community service.”

Do you guys think this is appropriate or excessive? We are beginning to feel some type of way about it. Sigh

The Hollywood actress also advised beginners to try The Tennis Coach s*x toy, which she says provides a 'gentle introduction' for 'first timers'.

Gwyneth’s recommendations come just days after she and husband Brad Falchuk took part in a Q&A video with an intimacy expert, which they hinted that they were sexually frustrated as they are quarantining alongside the actress's children, Apple and Moses, from her previous marriage to Coldplay star Chris Martin.

atoluwash:

Some hours ago, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, for organizing a birthday party for her husband despite the stay at home order given by the government due to Coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country.

The police arrested the celebrity this evening after a public outcry on social media calling for the prosecution of the superstar for breaching the law.

The Nigerin police also said that the attendees of the party should show up at the police headquarters or they will declare them wanted. Some of the attendees are; Afeez Fashola also known as Naira Marley, Babatunde Gbadamosi among others.

However, Nigerians have reacted to the arrest of Funke Akindele. Many Nigerians said the police are bias and sentimental. They pointed out to the fact that the former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also celebrated his birthday at the residence last week and neither was he questioned nor arrested by the police. They concluded that the police is selective in the application of the law.

atoluwash:

Due to the arrest of Funke Akindele by the NCDC over throwing a house party on her birthday with her husband, Bello, and other celebrities like Naira Marley and JJC, which was a violation of the restriction order of the Lagos State Government over the spread of Covid-19, some Nigerians have come out on social media to demand for the arrest of Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church a.k.a Winners Chapel.

Apparently, this came up because the minister held a Sunday service at the headquarters in Ota, Ogun State after a couple of cases of Covid-19 was confirmed in Nigeria.

However, the NCDC are not considering the minister of the gospel. In fact he even donated some ambulances to the NCDC to help in the fight against Covid-19. It is important that you know that this is not the reason why he is not being arrested.

Here are some reasons why Bishop David Oyedepo does not deserve to be arrested like Funke Akindele.

Here are some reasons why Bishop David Oyedepo does not deserve to be arrested like Funke Akindele;

1. Bishop David Oyedepo’s church (LFC) is in Ogun State not Lagos State.

2. The stay at home restriction law at that time was only effective in Lagos State, not Ogun.

3. Funke is in Lagos State. In fact, she is an NCDC ambassador.

Following actress Funke Akindele’s arrest, the Police have asked her husband JJC Skillz and music superstar Naira Marley to report on Monday for interrogation on the birthday party hosted by the former.

Recalls that Funke had hosted the party in honour of her husband, JJC Skillz on Saturday and Naira Marley was one of the stars that attended.

The house party held in an Estate along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, contravening the Government’s restriction order on COVID-19 pandemic.

While Akindele was arrested on Sunday after the video of the party went viral, the Police called on Naira Marley and JJC Skillz to give up themselves or risk being declared wanted.

Lagos Police spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday evening, said: “Funke Akindele was arrested. The investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz.

“They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April 2020 or risk being declared wanted.”

Meanwhile fans of the actress have called out JJC skillz for running away and not being there for his wife while being arrested.

One Funke Ajayi wrote “It is a shame that her husband is nowhere to be found, he caused the whole ish by uploading videos from the party on Insta stories and now he has disappeared instead of owning up, big shame on him”

Another one wrote “So the husband left her and went to hide when police came. Moral of the story: Men will embarrass you”

One Flexyrecka on Instagram wrote “Wawuuuuu….hustle ooooo, so they won’t arrest your wife over a crime you committed”

Yorubas on Twitter are the lowest in self esteem. Fake Fake people.

Yesterday arrest of Funke Akindele, aka Jennifer has caused uproar in many quarters. Many thought, she should be forgiven as an ambassador on COVID 19.

Also, many thought she should know better with her position in the campaign, she shouldn’t have allowed herself to be this messed up.

However, Dr Olunloyo has taken to her Twitter handle to rather call the Yorubas as a people and a nation with lowest self esteem. She claimed that the same people that were pleading for lockdown stimulus from her are the same that are celebrating her arrest on Twitter and social media.

In the same vein, many Nigerians have reacted against the tweet as they felt she’s definately tribalistic.

Tribalism has been one of the challenges we are facing in Nigeria today. And this is how it reflects in little concerns that we have for our traditional brother, forgetting that Nigeria is an indivisible entity.

If we must make Nigeria great, we must all see ourselves as brothers with one culture.

Re: COVID-19: I won’t wear face masks – Trump ignores medical advice by Chibuzo22(m) : 7:01 am On Apr 07, 2020

atoluwash:

US President, Donald Trump, on Saturday declared that he will not wear a face mask.

This is despite new medical guidance advising people in the country to do so.

Trump said that it doesn’t look nice for him to be greeting “presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens” in the Oval Office while wearing one.

He said the guidance issued on Friday by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the government’s public health advisory agency, on mask wearing in the US, is voluntary.

“You do not have to do it,” he said. “I don’t think I’m going to be doing it.”

278,458 cases of COVIID-19 and more than 7,000 deaths have been confirmed in the US.

New York State remains the worst affected area, with nearly 3,000 deaths, and state governor, Andrew Cuomo has appealed for help from other parts of the country.

The country’s health authorities had before now said that only the sick, or those caring for patients of coronavirus, should wear masks, but newer studies suggest that covering up one’s face is important to prevent inadvertent transmission.

Trump had told reporters on Friday that “from recent studies we know that the transmission from individuals without symptoms is playing a more significant role in the spread of the virus than previously understood.”

But after announcing the CDC’s new guidance he said: “I just don’t want to do it myself.”

“Sitting in the Oval Office… I somehow don’t see it for myself.”

Although Nigerians from different quarters have been pleading to the government not to allow 5G network into the country, Daddy Freeze is of the opinion that the main problem Nigeria is facing is WhatsApp Broadcast message which is a notable means of disseminating false information.

He shared the image above and wrote, “The fear and unfounded conspiracy theories being peddled on WhatsApp are our near and present danger, not 5G.-WhatsApp has become the medium for spreading the modern day ‘Jewish myths’ the Apostles complained about and when it’s in the hands of religious and superstitious people, it becomes a looming catastrophe.

Yes, there might be some level of danger associated with a technological breakthrough, but it’s a far cry from the exaggerated claims of WhatsApp theorists, who will go as far as spreading rumors about the COVID19 vaccine being the ‘antichrist’ and all manner of utter buffoonery.

If there is anything the Government needs to ban, its WhatsApp! Let our parents rest from being authorities on things they are clueless about sef.-This same Bill Gates that has bailed us out several times in the past and has been invaluable in the eradication of malaria, has all of a sudden become an agent of the antichrist, despite his warning the world several years ago, of its lack of preparedness should a pandemic arise.

5G is the future of the internet, we must be cautious about accepting it without proper testing, but rejecting it also is perilous; Nigeria is already in the technological Stone Age, must we remain there?
