Three years after paying $1.1 billion to acquire Drizly, an App that delivers alcohol, Uber is closing it down.

The company will incorporate Drizly, which grew to be the biggest online alcohol marketplace in North America, by the first quarter of 2024.

Uber Eats core strategy of enabling customers to order nearly anything through a single App will be the company’s primary priority according to Pierre Dimitri Gore-Coty, a senior vice president at Uber.

Additionally, the business discontinues Cornershop, its app for grocery shopping, although Uber Eats still offers delivery services for groceries and alcoholic beverages.

Uber’s primary ridesharing business experienced losses during the pandemic, therefore the company decided to buy Drizly during a transitional phase.

Though gross bookings for the third quarter exceeded even Uber’s own projections, the ridesharing company has rebounded in the last few quarters.
