Amazon has revealed that it will be layingoff numerous staff, including staff at Twitch, a streaming service, and its film and television studios division.

Amazon is eliminating “several hundred” positions from Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, while the digital giant is also laying off 500 employees from Twitch as part of continous cost-cutting measures.

According to Mike Hopkins, executive vice president of MGM Studios and Prime Video, the company have started contacting the impacted staff members.

In 2022, the company completed the $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, strengthening its presence in the entertainment industry and adding more material to Prime Video.

CEO of Twitch, Dan Clancy confirmed the layoffs in the gaming unit, describing the decision as “incredibly difficult.”

The news follows 400 job losses at Twitch in March, 2023, as a result of larger layoffs at parent company Amazon.

The layoffs come after numerous high-ranking executives left Twitch towards the end of the previous year, suggesting that the company is still facing difficulties.

Through its revenue-sharing arrangement, Twitch gave $1 billion in payouts in 2023.
