The Israeli military has reported that two Israelis lost their lives in an alleged shooting incident believed to be carried out by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The incident occurred close to the vicinity of Huwara, a location previously marked by fatal attacks on Israelis as well as clashes between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in retaliation.

According to reports from Israeli media, the shooting transpired at a carwash. The assailant, reportedly on foot, approached the scene and used a handgun to open fire.

The Israeli ambulance service confirmed the deaths of two male individuals, aged approximately 30 and 60, both identified as civilians. Sources indicate that they were a father and son.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad, Palestinian militant groups, commended the attack. Meanwhile, the Israeli military has established checkpoints in the area and is actively searching for the shooter.

Huwara has remained a focal point of tensions in the West Bank for an extended period. Situated along a major route south of Nablus, utilized by both Palestinians and Israeli settlers, the area has witnessed various conflicts and incidents over time.

In the past, Israelis would sometimes shop there, but that has become uncommon after a recent surge in violence.

This year, the village has seen several shooting attacks in which Israeli settlers and soldiers have been targeted - including the killing of two brothers in February.

That triggered a deadly rampage by a large crowd of settlers in one of the worst such acts in years. There have also been other instances of settler violence.
