Adamawa police command arrested one Ibrahim Muhammadu for allegedly conspiring with another man to set ablaze a newly married woman and her husband because she jilted him.

Police said that the suspect was from Gadawaliwol, Girei Local Government Area. He hired someone to set them ablaze on September 6, just two weeks after their wedding.

The woman died on Saturday September 10, due to severe burns she had while the man is still receiving treatment in the hospital.

According to reports, Ibrahim Muhammadu, a married father of four children, fell in love with the deceased and spent about N150, 000 on her after she agreed to marry him.

After allegedly receiving the money, the deceased declined to marry and married another suitor: The man who is currently fighting for his life in the hospital.

Muhammadu was so mad at this, he gave Ibrahim Savanna N5,000 as well as four measures of rice to get the couple killed.

After collecting the money and the rice, Ibrahim Savanna, armed with petrol and matches, went into the room of the couple in the night and set it on fire after locking it up.

The Nation reported that the arsonist fled and was not found. Muhammadu was arrested and is currently being held by police.

SP Suleiman Nguroje (Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa State), confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command was investigating the matter and would bring the suspect to trial.

He assured that the suspect would be duly investigated and prosecuted, advising the general public to desist from taking law into their own hands.
