Governor David Umahi won the primary election for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi South senatorial District.

The Ebonyi Governor, who was a candidate in the election that took place at Afikpo North Regional Government Headquarters on Sunday, July 31st, polled 250 votes to win.

The Chairman of the Electoral Panel of APC Ebonyi South Senatorial district Election, Professor Emmanuel Adebayo announced the results and declared Governor Umahi the winner after he received the most votes.

Adebayo revealed that five contestants took part in the new primary election of the party. A total of 275 votes were cast, of which 268 were valid and the remaining seven were invalid.

After Governor Umahi had filed a suit against the Federal High Court, seeking recognition as the APC candidate in Ebonyi South's senatorial district, the Abakaliki division of the Federal High Court dismissed the suit. Umahi had won the presidential nomination and expressions of interest forms from the APC for N100 million.

Amid controversy that the Electoral Act does not allow for the purchase of such forms at the same time, he stressed that the presidential primary had concluded way before he joined the senatorial race.

Following that pronouncement, Justice Fatun Riman ordered a fresh primary election to produce the APC candidate for the senatorial zone within 14 days.
