Justice Efe Ikponmwonba, of the Criminal court 1, Benin City in Edo state has sentenced Dominion Okoro to death by hanging. Dominion Okoro was the housemaid of Madam Maria Igbinedion's mother, Lucky Igbinedion. Lucky Igbinedion was the ex-governor in Edo state. Dominion Okoro killed the 85-year-old woman at her GRA Benin City residence on December 2, 2021. She fled with her jewelry

Okoro who had served as the housemaid for the deceased for years, killed her because she wanted to cart away her money and personal items. When she was arrested, Okoro said her late boss never offended her.

'I killed Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion) to carry her money. She did not offend me. While she was sleeping on her bed, around 12:01 a.m. on December 2, 2021, I used a stool to hit her on the head she was shouting for help, but only the gateman was around and he did not hear the shout. Mama later died.

I waited until 4 AM on December 2, 2021, before I left the house with Mama’s N100,000.00 wristwatch and jewelry. I fled to Cross River State but was later detained by the police."

Following her confessional statement, Dominion and her sister were arrested. Her sister, Patience Okoro, was arraigned in court.

Justice Ipkonwonba delivered judgment in the case Monday, June 20. She convicted Dominion of all three charges against her. Dominion was sentenced to death by hanging and robbery with violence. Justice Ipkonwonba also convicted her of count two, which was for applying harmful chemicals to Madam Igbinedion.

The convict's sister who was charged for accessory after the facts for murder in count four was discharged and acquitted.
