Omoyele Sowore (Africa Action Congress presidential candidate) accused the ruling All Progressives Congress on Sunday of monetizing Ekiti State's just concluded governorship elections.

According to The PUNCH, Biodun Oyebanji (the APC candidate) won the governorship election for 15 of 16 local government areas of the state. He won with 187,057 votes, defeating his rivals Olabisi Kolole of the Peoples Democratic Party (67,457, 82,211, respectively) and Segun Oni, of the Social Democratic Party (187,057,).

During this time, the human rights activist described the exercise via his Twitter handle as unfair and corrupt.

He accused Kayode Fayemi (the outgoing governor) and other members of the ruling party of destroying the country's democracy.

"In Ekiti, the APC monetized governorship elections to the point where those who stayed away from them (s)election played street soccer and felt that they were the only ones who made the right decision. It is a shame!

Sowore shared a video showing some youths playing football during the election in the state.

Many clips alleging vote-buying and other electoral malpractices during the Ekiti governorship elections went viral on social media platforms.
