Uganda is going to turn into a power supply nation. The nation will Commence providing electricity to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in least at the next 3 years, reports the Daily Monitor.

Uganda signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide power to eastern Congo a week ago.

“The financing of the project will be about $150m. Of that amount, Uganda will contribute about $22m and the rest will be the responsibility of DR Congo government. Once that funding is secured, it will take two years to complete the project, which could be by end of 2019 or there about,” said Uganda’s Energy minister Irene Muloni.



Uganda will Fund with Cash borrowed in the African Development Bank. Uganda is working towards finishing the Karuma, Isimba along with other Little power dams to make power that could be exported.

Ugandan launched of the ISO certification of Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) in Kampala last Friday. The ISO 9001: 2015 certification means implementation, monitoring, procurement and human resource management of the power generation corporation will be streamlined to international standards.
