We sought out ten African presidents with biggest wardrobes. As is well known, Africans have a penchant to dress fancy. Regardless of the shallowness of our pockets, it seems Africans are always going for the most expensive fashion brands such as Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Angelo Galasso, Calvin Klein and many others.

Lately, China has met the demand for expensive brands in Africa by manufacturing cheap and counterfeit goods that look, in most cases, just like the American and European brands we go for.

10. Denis Sassou Nguesso – Congo Brazzaville

9. Ali Bongo Ondimba – Gabon

8. Joseph Kabila – Democratic Republic of Congo

But what happens when you find yourself in political office in Africa, with limitless access to money? Are you not then able to wear whatever you want to wear? In our research for the 10 African presidents with biggest wardrobes.

7. King Mswati – Swaziland

6. Teodorín Obiang Mbasogo – Equatorial Guinea
What we found was that the longer a president had stayed in power, the larger and more refined his wardrobe was going to be. With ten slots to fill, here is what we found

5. Alassane Ouattara – Ivory Coast

4. Paul Biya – Cameroon

3. Jose Eduardo dos Santos – Angola

2. Idriss Deby – Chad

1. Robert Mugabe – Zimbabwe

Most certainly, after being in power for 37 years, it behooves Robert Mugabe to have the largest wardrobe amongst all the African presidents. And, remember Mugabe is a white man trapped in a black body. Most journalists and politicians have commented on Mugabe’s Victorian lifestyle and manners. Mugabe is always clad in well fitting suits. He always makes sure to match the shirt with the tie and the pocket handkerchief! Heidi Holland, a South African journalist who once interviewed Mugabe and wrote the famous book, “Dinner with Mugabe,” remarked about Mugabe’s Victorian manners and lifestyle. She said, “Mugabe grew up in the colonial era. One of the reasons he’s been so angry and is still so angry is that he’s been rejected by the British. When I interviewed him in 2007 he had tears in his eyes when he mentioned the British royal family. The real problem is that he tries to be both an African and a Brit and he can’t pull it off because they are parallel people and they despise each other.
