Can a young woman just get a decent show?! by Fgreen(m) : 5:13 pm On May 03, 2017

Shows about single women and s*x shouldn’t be so boring though…

Mary Remmy is a married woman. She has been married for a few years now. And that is probably why she doesn’t know how we single women function anymore.

Before I continue, I am a sucker for romcoms, chic flicks featuring sexy shirtless men. Actually, sexy men in and out of clothes. And, in my opinion, they’re the easiest to make and you can never go wrong with them.

The romcoms/chic flicks, guys. Not the sexy men.

But how shows/films in the aforementioned genres still end up boring is puzzling. On Sunday, April 30, I stumbled on Rok TV‘s Single Ladies.

I had learned about the show, read an unfavourable review and seen a poster of all the leading ladies on Instagram.

A poster featuring each woman with the same contoured nose. I should have taken that as a warning sign. This show isn’t for people like me. But still, I refused to pre-judge it.

As you may have already guessed, Single Ladies is a show about single women in Lagos, finding men, definitely getting laid, blah blah blah….

Basically, it’s s*x and the City kinda ish. It’s supposed to be fun and flirty. Interesting even when annoying. And above all, it’s supposed to make you feel something. And more, feel for the characters.

It’s mostly about grown ass single women in Lagos, Nigeria after all and most single women have a few things in common.

However, a couple of scenes with a badly made up, Annie Idibia and more ‘up and down’ scenes with confusing emotions and I was like, egbami. What exactly is going on here?

As if that wasn’t enough, we watch Annie Idibia go from scene to scene, whining about looking for a man to pose as her fiance. This she needs so her mother who will be visiting in days will meet a Fiance she’d previously lied existed.

Okay…

At this point, one wonders if she cannot simply tell her mother they broke up? Or why this is such a big issue that has to be spread across an entire episode when there are more interesting issues the Writer could have thrown at her characters?

Why was there an exaggerated case of a missing Fiance?

After all the issues women face – v*gina issues, uterus issues, toilet disease, hike in the prices of sanitary towels and this is all an entire episode is filled with? :/

But the creator hasn’t been in this market (real life single lady’s club) for a while, so for that, we’d forgive her.

For this season at least.
