Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Osun, Olawale Rasheed Escaped Death

Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirants in Osun State, Olawale Rasheed, was on Friday morning attacked by four gunmen.

Olawale Rasheed who is a former Political Editor of Nigerian Tribune escaped being killed as one of his aides, narrated how he cheated death at the early morning attack in Osogbo.

According to him, He said he left Ibadan and was coming back to Osogbo to submit his letter of intent to contest the governorship election on the platform of the PDP when his attackers, who drove in a unmarked black sport utility van, grabbed his car and opened fire on it.

The governorship aspirant stated he could not accuse anybody in particular of being behind the attack, but he said he was saved by God who prevented the onslaught of bullets by hitting him or any of his aides in the vehicle together.

He said, “I was coming to Osogbo from Ibadan this morning when the incident happened.

“I was at Gbogan and I observed that a vehicle was trailing me; so, I asked the person driving the vehicle in which I was to slow down.

“I became obvious that they were up to something evil.

“The unmarked black SUV in which the gunmen were driving immediately overtook us and blocked our path. Four masked men came out of the SUV and started shooting in the air and one of them said, ‘Get him, get him.’

“Our driver immediately put the vehicle in reverse gear and sped away before he later managed to turn back and faced Ibadan.

“They also turned and pursued us for about five minutes. They shot at us continuously as they trailed us.

“They eventually turned back before we got to Ikire and that was how we escaped the attack.”

Asked if he had reported the case to the police, Rasheed, who looked distraught, said he had yet to make any official report of the incident, promising to do so before leaving Osogbo.
