Police Detains Driver Who Stole His Employer's Car In Abuja

The Authorities in the Ikoyi Division, Lagos, South West Nigeria have detained a motorist, Emmanuel Agene, 27, for supposedly stealing his employer's Ford Edge SUV with registration number LSR 921 AW appreciated at N6.5m one week after he started working.

He drove the SUV into Abuja, Nigeria while looking for a buyer before he was detained.

The incident happened on 10 November, 2017 at 1, MacGregor Road, Ikoyi, Lagos as the defendant was sent on an errand into Jibowu region of Lagos by his Boss lady, Modupe Adesunloye.

Nemesis, however, caught up with the driver when he had been detained by law enforcement at Abuja for selling the car to a purchaser with bogus records.

During interrogation by the authorities, the defendant from Otukpo, Benue State, supposedly confessed he stole the car from his employer to market and utilize the proceeds to begin his lifetime, including that he intentionally procured the driving job mostly for him to steal.

After his alleged confession, the Authorities in Abuja delivered a sign to the Authorities in Lagos concerning the theft case SP Tijani Mustapha discharged a group headed by Ijatuyi Tope on Abuja to deliver the defendant along with the stolen SUV back into Lagos.

The defendant was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos on 3-count control of felony to wit stealing.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the alleged offense in the court.

Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted him bail in the amount of N500,000 with two sureties in such as amount and adjourned the case until 5th March, 2018 for hearing.

Ajayi ordered the defendant be retained in the Ikoyi Prison, Lagos until he fulfilled the bond condition.
