Mr Thomas Arnold Pearce and Mr Hendrik Gideon Smith, both of South African nationale, were allegedly adopted in Maidaro village whilst carrying out minning activities.

Their abductors afterwards took them to Birnin Gwari forest in Kaduna state.

According to a Police sources, both foreigners were rescued 3am on Saturday, following extreme pressure on the kidnappers from the IRT, Police Airwing helicopter patrol and Kaduna State Command Police.

The source said the victims were moved from Kaduna to Abuja immediately after the successful rescue mission and were handed over to the South African Embassy and their company representatives by 7am, for medicals and other immediate needs.

It was also gathered that "the victims are in good health condition and they've given invaluable advice to the Police which will help in their search".

"Some suspects have been arrested and serious attempts to arrest remaining gang members were in progress," the source stated.
