“Speaking Yoruba is draining, sometimes it irks my nerves” — Adunni Ade by jadoo51(m) : 4:47 am On Mar 07 |
Adunni Ade, a Yoruba actress, has sparked controversy by expressing her discomfort with speaking Yoruba, a stance that has left many people upset. During an interview with Channels Television, the actress, who is of mixed heritage with a German-American mother and a Nigerian father, politely declined the host's request to speak her native language. She explained that she prefers to communicate in English, emphasizing that it is the recognized language in Nigeria. Adunni urged everyone to adopt English as the primary language of communication. She shared that speaking in Yoruba makes her uncomfortable, citing instances where people have rudely insisted she speak her native tongue. Acknowledging the surprise many express when they learn she can speak Yoruba due to her appearance, Adunni admitted the misconception surrounding her linguistic abilities. Adunni Ade also appreciated her dad for bringing her down to Nigeria to learn the Yoruba culture and traditions. See some reactions to her statement below @A_RWAC said: “Why do I feel she’s trying to distance herself from being Yoruba? Or am I just getting the entire convo wrong? When she said “my father brought me to Nigeria to learn the Nigerian culture” I was like are you joking, your YouTube father brought you home to learn his culture no to learn Nigerian culture like you’re some tourist.” @drakson_MCI wrote: “Such iconic name shouldn’t have been given to this person” @Wesleydeycook added: “Be like sey she dey cr*ze, if no be Yoruba movies who go sabi her” @RadicalYouthMan commented: “Nothing wokeness will not cause in Nigeria… Speaking your native language hurts your nerves ” |

I'm not impressed with your statement which is your native language irks your nerves and also encouraging us to speak English instead of our native language which is Yoruba.
I have watched enormous movies of yours and commended you severally on the fluency of Yoruba language, though you were later brought to Nigeria. I believe you were not in the mood to speak our native language during the interview, next time for the sake of others encourage us to speak the language. |
