The Ogun State Police Command said it had arrested three persons for allegedly selling Indian hemp in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in an interview with PUNCH Metro, on Tuesday, confirmed that the anti-robbery squad of the command made the arrest during a routine patrol on Saturday.

According to information made available to PUNCH Metro, the three suspects and others fled the scene as soon as they sighted the police squad patrol van approaching the area.

While others fled into a nearby bush, the anti-robbery team was said to have given them a hot chase, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects.

Our correspondent further learnt that before the arrest of the trio, the police said they had been members of two notorious gang members, Oloyo and Surulere, which had been terrorising the community at large

Those arrested include Olashile Mustapha, Babatunde Ahmed, and Gbenga Adekanbi.

The source said in the process of frisking the suspects, a larger amount of substance suspected to be Indian hemp was discovered on them.

Confirming the arrest to our correspondent, Odutola said the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta after a preliminary investigation was completed.

She said, “The three suspects will be prosecuted once we conclude our investigation. The substance found on them is suspected to be Indian hemp.”

Earlier this month, the Katsina State Police Command arrested a suspected kingpin, Muhammad Ismail and seized 46 bags of Indian hemp alongside other hard substances with illicit narcotics.

The arrested suspect confessed to all his crimes and also exposed his main accomplice identified as Ibrahim Kisko.

The police said Ismail would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency alongside the substances for further investigations.
