Tunde Ednut has provided insight into why Wizkid holds a higher status in the African music scene compared to Burna Boy and Davido.

In a video shared by the blogger, it was explained that Wizkid's esteem in Africa stems from his influence in altering the treatment of African artists at the BET International Awards.

The video, as posted on Tunde Ednut's Instagram page, highlighted the practice before 2018 where African artists received their awards backstage at the BET Awards. Contrarily, Wizkid, who won the BET Award in 2017, chose not to attend, criticizing the event for insincere support toward African artists.

Wizkid emphasized that if the BET Awards couldn't treat African artists on par with their international counterparts, they should refrain from recognizing them.

This stance had a noticeable impact, leading to Davido, the winner of the BET award in 2018, being welcomed to the main ceremony to receive his accolade.

The video's narrator underscored, "In addition to his musical talent, Wizkid's widespread respect in Africa is significantly attributed to his instrumental role in transforming the treatment of African artists at the BET Awards."

Before 2018, African artists received their awards backstage or in front of an empty audience often hours before the main show.

In 2017, Wizkid won BET Best International Act but chose not to attend the event. He not only refused to show up but also called out BET expressing his discontent in an interview.

“If you are not gonna show us the same love, you show your international artiste, if you’re not gonna show us that same love on the main stage then don’t show us no love until we don’t want it.”

The impact was tangible, the following year when Davido secured the award, it was presented to him during the main show in front of a live audience.
