Nigeria: Accountant General gets questions from EFCC over N585m fraud by sundaysamuel381(m) : 5:26 pm On Jan 17 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is questioning Nigeria Accountant Genera, Oluwatoyin Madein, regarding her suspected involvement in a N585.2 million scam involving Dr. Betta Edu, the recently sacked Minister of Humanitarian Affairs. Edu was charged with masterminding the illicit transfer of N585.2 million from the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) account to a ministry’s official personal account. Madein refuted the memo, claiming that funds are distributed to self-accounting organisations directly. President Bola Tinubu suspended Dr. Edu on January 8, 2024 in response to reports of unauthorised payments of humanitarian aid into a personal account. The head of NSIP agency, Halima Shehu, is also being investigated for a second N44 billion cash theft, substantially broadening the agency’s hope. Concerns concerning possible mismanagement and embazzlement at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, a national organisation entrusted with reducing poverty and misery, are raised by the growing crises. The Nigeria anti-graft agency, EFCC is doing their jobs of ensuring that public entities are free from financial crimes. |
