An earthquake in north-west China on Monday has resulted in the reported death of at least 95 people, with an additional 220 individuals injured, according to state media.

The quake, which occurred around midnight in Gansu province and also affected the neighboring province of Qinghai, had a magnitude of 5.9 and a depth of 10km (six miles), as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS).

Early on Tuesday morning, rescue efforts were already in progress.
