Actor Jonathan Majors has been convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend following a trial in New York. The jury, consisting of six members, declared Majors, renowned for his portrayal of Kang in the Marvel universe, guilty of attacking British choreographer Grace Jabbari during an incident in March.

Jabbari testified in court that the altercation left her with a fractured finger, bruising, a cut behind her ear, and intense pain. Majors now faces a potential jail term of up to a year, raising uncertainty about his leading roles in upcoming Marvel films.

The jury's verdict, reached after three days of deliberation, was announced on Monday. The assault occurred in a car in New York when Ms. Jabbari discovered a text message on Majors' phone from another woman stating, "Wish I was kissing you right now."

Prosecutors asserted that when she attempted to take the phone, Majors grabbed her, twisted her arm behind her back, and struck her in the head to retrieve it. Ms. Jabbari described feeling a severe blow across her head during the incident.

Majors was found guilty of two out of the four domestic violence charges he faced—assault by recklessly causing physical injury and harassment. However, the jury chose not to convict him on charges of aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical harm.

The prosecution portrayed the assault as the latest escalation in Majors' efforts to "exert control" over his girlfriend through physical and emotional violence.

They presented voice recordings and text messages as evidence, revealing disturbing statements from the actor, including a message sent in September 2022 where he described himself as a "monster" and a "horrible man" not capable of love.

During an argument in the same month, Majors told Ms. Jabbari she needed to emulate Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama, adding that she would have to "make sacrifices" for him.

While Majors did not testify, his lawyer claimed that he was the victim, and Ms. Jabbari assaulted him out of jealousy after seeing the text message in the car.

Majors, 34, did not issue a statement in response to the conviction. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for February, accompanied by a new protection order prohibiting contact with Ms. Jabbari.

Marvel previously delayed the release of "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty," in which Majors plays the lead villain, and postponed the release of "Magazine Dreams" following the allegations.
