Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of the acclaimed Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely recognized as Mr. Ibu, has revealed the cause behind the amputation of one of the actor’s legs.

Reports surfaced that Mr. Ibu underwent seven successful surgeries, including the amputation, owing to an infection that affected the arteries around the ankle.

As per Chochoo, who managed Mr. Ibu for more than ten years, the actor is responding positively to treatment and is gradually recuperating.

Despite the hurdles, the medical team has been diligently addressing the actor’s various health issues.

Chochoo shared that the amputation was an essential part of Mr Ibu’s medical journey due to an infection affecting one of the ankle arteries.

Regrettably, the condition went unnoticed until it reached a critical stage, necessitating the tough decision to amputate the leg.

“The doctors are treating everything one after the other. What led to the amputation of one of his legs was an infection that affected one of the arteries at the ankle.

“Blood wasn’t flowing into the leg, which was not detected on time. When it was, it had become too late, causing the doctors to decide on the amputation,” Chochoo explained.

He also mentioned that the surgery took place in Nigeria, and while Mr Ibu is currently receiving care in the country, plans are underway to fly him abroad for further treatment.

“The surgery was done in Nigeria. He will soon be flown out of the country for further treatment but for now, he is being cared for in Nigeria,” Mr. Ibu ex-manager added.
