Australian retailer Kmart has removed a holiday-themed bag from its website following a complaint from a Jewish group. The bag, featuring the pun "ham-mas," was flagged by the Australian Jewish Association due to its unintentional resemblance to the proscribed terrorist group Hamas.

Wesfarmers, the owner of Kmart, issued an apology in response to the concerns. The bag, which included instructions for keeping ham fresh and the phrase "Merry HAM-MAS," has been taken down from the website.

The Australian Jewish Association highlighted the issue on Twitter, emphasizing that while it may be seen as potentially funny, it is not a good look for the company.

"So we've politely written to Wesfarmers corporate suggesting the product be pulled."

In an update around an hour later, the group said it had been contacted by senior management at the supermarket's parent company and assured the bag would be removed from its website.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: "We got it wrong on this occasion, and we apologise unreservedly.

"When designing this product we clearly didn't think through all the implications and the product has been removed from sale."
