Samantha Woll, the president of a synagogue in Detroit, USA, was tragically discovered fatally stabbed in a nearby park, not far from her residence.

Law enforcement responded to a call in the Lafayette Park vicinity on Saturday, where they found the unresponsive victim. Authorities suspect that the crime took place in her home.

Despite extensive efforts, there is no information available regarding the identity of the perpetrator or the motive behind the killing. Notably, there is no evidence to suggest that this tragic event was driven by antisemitism, as per the police.

Government officials and community leaders have expressed their condolences and recognized Samantha Woll's significant contributions. Michigan State Attorney General Dana Nessel conveyed her shock and horror at the brutal murder, while state Governor Gretchen Whitmer characterized it as a heinous crime.

In a statement, she lauded Ms. Woll as a bright presence in her community who tirelessly worked to improve Michigan.

Sam Dubin, the assistant director of the Jewish Community Relations Council, shared his perspective with the BBC's US partner CBS, noting Samantha Woll's ever-present warm and welcoming smile.

"Whatever you were thinking or doing before, talking with Sam allowed you to put the nonsense of the world aside for just a moment," he said.

In a statement released on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday, Detroit Police Chief James White said an investigation into Ms Woll's death was ongoing.

"At this time, however, no evidence has surfaced suggesting that this crime was motivated by antisemitism," he said.

He added that investigators from the Detroit Police Department are working with the FBI, and some people "with information" are being interviewed.

"I again ask the community to remain patient while our investigators and law enforcement partners continue their work."
