Basketmouth, a multi-talented artist known for his comedy and music, has raised apprehensions regarding the surging expenses linked to music video production.

The accomplished comedian lamented the industry's substantial rate hike, which has jumped from 7 to 7.5 million Naira to approximately 27 to 30 million Naira at present.

Basketmouth conveyed his concerns about the escalating production costs in a recent interview on The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos.

He stated that the price increase was the reason he chose to shoot a holdup video for the lead song from his upcoming album, “Uburu,” “Party,” rather than spending more than N25 million to shoot a traditional video.

He said, “The visual we have for my song ‘Party’ with Peruzzi is not an official video. It’s just like a holdup because I did not know that the economy had hit us that badly. 2 years ago, I used to make videos for 7–7.5 million Naira. Now, it is 27–30 million Naira.

“I’m an Igbo man so the first thing I thought about was, ‘Okay, Bright, if you’re spending N25 million on visuals, it’s for uptick, right? Then do a holdup video; do something for uptick as well.’”
