According to the US Coast Guard, the remains of the Titan submersible, which suffered a catastrophic failure during its ill-fated expedition to the Titanic in June, have been successfully retrieved, along with presumed human remains.

The vessel had imploded during its dive into the Titanic wreck, resulting in the tragic loss of all five passengers on board.

The search for the submersible captured international attention and led to a widespread effort to locate it. The first pieces of debris were discovered a few days later.

Recently, Coast Guard authorities revealed that the remaining sections of the submersible were recovered from the ocean floor last week and transported to a US port. Medical experts will conduct analyses on the human remains recovered.

Despite being termed "experimental" by its builder, OceanGate, the Titan submersible had previously completed multiple dives to the Titanic, resting 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) beneath the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean. Tragically, the company's CEO, Stockton Rush, was among the passengers on the vessel when it succumbed to the immense water pressure and imploded.

The other four individuals who lost their lives in the incident were British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood (aged 48) and his son Suleman (aged 19), British businessman Hamish Harding (aged 58), and Paul-Henry Nargeolet (aged 77), a former French navy diver.

US court documents uncovered after the implosion indicated that Mr Rush ignored safety warnings about the submersible. OceanGate, which organized dives in locations around the world, suspended all operations after the disaster.

The hull of the Titan was made from carbon fiber, with titanium end plates and a small window at one end. Carbon fiber is cheaper than titanium or steel and is extremely strong, but it is a largely untested and unusual material for deep sea dives with human passengers.

An international investigation into the disaster continues, and the Coast Guard said a public hearing will be held at a future date
