Donald Trump's election campaign reports a fundraising total of $7.1 million (£5.6 million) since his police mugshot was captured at an Atlanta, Georgia prison on Thursday.

A substantial portion of the funds comes from the sale of merchandise featuring his stern visage, including mugs, T-shirts, and drink coolers.

Following his release on bail, Trump faces charges of conspiring to overturn Georgia's 2020 election outcomes.

As he continues his campaign for the 2024 US election, he confronts three other indictments, including those tied to his false assertions of election theft and the assault by his supporters on the Capitol.

Trump firmly denies all allegations, asserting that they are driven by political motivations as he leads the race for the Republican nomination against Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden.

His arrest seems to have invigorated his followers, leading to nearly $20 million in contributions within three weeks of his indictments in the Georgia and Capitol riot cases.

Notably, Trump's immediate arrest in Georgia resulted in a record-breaking $4.18 million raised within a 24-hour timeframe, marking the highest figure achieved in his campaign so far.

As well as selling merchandise from its online store, the campaign has been messaging supporters asking for help.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump himself posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, for the first time since January 2021, sharing the mugshot with the caption "Election interference. Never surrender!" and the address of his website.

This came after the former president was photographed at Fulton County jail, where he surrendered to law enforcement and paid $200,000 to be released as he awaits trial.
