Russia's defense ministry has reported foiling a drone attack from Ukraine by downing two drones in the Moscow region. Additionally, two other drones were intercepted near the Bryansk region, situated northeast of the Ukrainian border.

This resulted in the temporary suspension of flights to and from Moscow's airports early on Tuesday. As drone strike reports increase, the airspace above Moscow has been closed multiple times recently.

Furthermore, the defense ministry disclosed that a Russian warplane had eliminated a Ukrainian reconnaissance boat in the Black Sea, which had approached Russian gas production facilities.

Moscow's Mayor Sergei Sobyanin mentioned that Russian air defenses had shot down two drones west of the capital in the Krasnogorsk and Shastsy districts.

While Ukraine hasn't officially claimed responsibility for specific drone attacks, President Volodymyr Zelensky previously stated that attacks on Russian territory are a natural and just process.

Reports indicated that a prominent Russian long-range bomber was destroyed in a Ukrainian drone strike, showcasing a Tupolev Tu-22 engulfed in flames at Soltsy-2 airbase. Moscow contended that a drone was hit by gunfire but managed to inflict damage on the aircraft.

The Russian Tu-22 bomber, capable of traveling at twice the speed of sound, has been extensively utilized by Russia for assaulting cities in Ukraine. Despite the developments, there have been no reported injuries, and Ukraine has not provided any comments on the matter.

Moscow's defense ministry said in a statement that an attack by a "copter-type UAV" took place at around 10:00 Moscow time (08:00 BST) on Saturday.

It stated the location as "a military airfield in the Novgorod region", where Soltsy-2 is situated.

"The UAV was detected by the airfield's observation outpost and was hit with small-arms fire," the ministry said.

"One airplane was damaged; there were no casualties as a result of the terrorist act."

The statement also said a fire that broke out in the airfield parking lot was quickly extinguished.

However, images posted on the social media platform Telegram showed a large fire engulfing a jet with the distinctive nose cone of the Tu-22. BBC Verify analyzed the images and believes them to be credible.

Kyiv has over recent months launched dozens of fixed-wing unmanned aircraft to attack Moscow, a journey of several hundred miles.
