Nigerians don’t believe I’m on the same level as American artistes–Burna by ayodeji11(m) : 4:53 pm On Aug 17, 2023 |
Renowned Afrobeats artist, Burna Boy, expressed his frustration with the prevailing perception that he hasn't reached the same status as American musicians. In a conversation with the Los Angeles Times, he lamented the tendency for fellow Nigerians to place him beneath emerging American rappers. Burna Boy attributed this attitude to his unique sound, as Nigerians struggle to fathom how someone with his distinctive style could surpass American artists. He added that his forthcoming album “I Told Them…” is a clap back at naysayers and detractors who has discredited him both at the beginning and middle of his career. Burna Boy said … “To this day, there’s many Nigerians who can tell you an American rapper who just started their career, and they’ll say they’re bigger than Burna Boy. They don’t understand it. They’ll say, ‘There’s no way someone who talks like me, can even be on the same level as an American artist.” |
