An explosion that shook the small town of San Cristóbal in the Dominican Republic resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 11 individuals on Monday. Among the victims were 10 adults and a four-month-old baby, with officials expressing concerns that there could be more bodies yet to be discovered. The exact cause of the explosion in the town's commercial district remains unknown. The aftermath was marked by billowing smoke from the blast and subsequent fires, lingering over the town for several hours. The town is currently grappling with the disappearance of ten individuals, with President Luis Abinader personally overseeing efforts to locate them. Numerous individuals sustained injuries, with many still receiving treatment in hospitals. Despite ongoing efforts, firefighters are grappling with flames in four of the nine affected buildings. The explosion ripped through the town, on the southwestern outskirts of the capital Santo Domingo, on Monday afternoon. Its exact source has not yet been pinpointed. Among the buildings destroyed are a hardware shop, a veterinary clinic, and a plastics factory. |
