A 44-year-old man, Alli Yusuf, was on Friday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State for alleged burglary and theft.

Yusuf was accused of allegedly burgling the warehouse of one Prince Chuks and stealing two bales of clothes valued at N5m.

He was arraigned before Magistrate Patrick Nwaka, on three counts charge bordering on burgling and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, holding a brief for Haruna Magaji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 2, 2023, at Nnamdi Azikwe Street, in the Lagos Island area of the state.

According to the prosecutor, the offences committed are punishable under Sections 411, 287 and 312 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The charges read in part, “That you, Alli Yusuf, and others now at large, on August 2, 2023, at Nnamdi Azikwe Street, Lagos Island Area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did burgle the warehouse of one Prince Chuks and thereafter stole two bales of clothes, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 312 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till September 1, 2023, for mention.
