A court document recently unsealed reveals that a six-year-old student in the US, who had shot his teacher earlier this year, boasted about the incident, declaring "I shot [her] dead."

Following the shooting at a Virginia school, the young boy, while being restrained, confessed by saying "I did it" and mentioned that he had acquired his mother's gun the previous night. The teacher, Abigail "Abby" Zwerner, survived the attack and filed a $40 million lawsuit.

The boy's mother, Deja Taylor, has been charged with felony child neglect and misdemeanor endangerment related to leaving a loaded firearm accessible to a child. Taylor also faces charges of unlawfully using a controlled substance while possessing a firearm and making false statements during the firearm purchase. Ms. Taylor could be sentenced to up to 25 years in prison.

The boy, who used his mother's gun, wounded Ms. Zwerner, his first-grade teacher, in the hand and chest at Richneck Elementary School. After the incident, Ms. Zwerner recounted that the child pulled out a firearm from his pocket and pointed it at her, saying, "What are you doing with that?"

The teacher underwent multiple surgeries. Amy Korvac, a reading specialist, restrained the student until the police arrived and reportedly heard the boy confess to the shooting while using profanity.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Korvac described finding the boy standing near his desk with a handgun on the floor next to him, and she then called 911.

"While I was holding him, he told me he had gotten his mom's gun the night before and put it in his backpack," Ms Kovac told the paper. "He also told me he only had time to load one bullet."

The court documents also mention another incident with the same student while he was in kindergarten. A retired teacher told police he started "choking her to the point she could not breathe".

In Ms. Zwerner's lawsuit, filed in April, she accuses school officials of gross negligence for ignoring warning signs and argues the defendants knew the child "had a history of random violence".
