Auwal Usman, 32, was given a sentence by a Bauchi State Chief Magistrates’ Court for using a machete to amputate his friend’s two hands in the state.

Usman was found guilty of using a machete to cut his friend’s hands during a physical altercation by the presiding judge, Haruna Mamma.

The suspect, a resident of Dogon Ruwa village in Ari, in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, got into a fight with Sabo Abduwa as a result of an argument, according to police prosecutor Yusuf Musa, who testified in court.

The prisoner pulled out a machete during the altercation, according to Musa, and cut his friend’s two hands.

One hand dropped, and the other was left hanging.

The remaining hand was amputated to save Abduwa’s life due to the serious injuries he sustained as a result of the deep cut, Musa continued. Abduwa was taken to the Ningi General Hospital for medical care. The penal code’s Section 241 is violated by this.

The suspect admitted to the crimes when they were read to him, but he begged the judge for mercy because it was his first offense.

In giving his verdict, Mamman stated that the jury was persuaded that the suspect’s heinous act caused the victim to lose both of his hands, leaving him permanently disabled.

As a result, Mamman sentenced him for causing great harm in violation of Section 241 of the Penal Code to two years in a correctional facility without the possibility of a fine.

Additionally, he mandated that he give the victim N150,000 to cover his medical expenses.
