Hotel worker in Rivers dies allegedly from torture; manager is detained by sundaysamuel381(m) : 5:29 pm On Jun 24, 2023 |
Nnnena Onu, a woman employed by a hotel in Ebocha, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, Rivers State, was allegedly tortured to death by her employer after she failed to account for N17,500. According to information obtained by City Round, the victim was imprisoned in a hotel room without access to food or water until she passed out from exhaustion. Onu reportedly begged her employer to release her on the third day after paying the specified sum because she was deteriorating, but her cries were ignored. The girl later passed out and was taken to the hospital, where she later passed away. She allegedly slumped and was taken to the hospital, where she passed away, according to some locals, who denied that she had been tortured. In the meantime, the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations has urged the police to launch an investigation into the incident right away. Enefaa Georgewill, the group’s chairman, told reporters in Port Harcourt that the police needed to find everyone responsible and bring them to justice. According to Georgewill, “The Rivers State Civil Society Organizations call on the state commissioner of police to investigate, detain, and prosecute all those involved in Miss Nnnena Onu’s torture to death.” Our investigation revealed that the late Miss Nnnena was purportedly detained for four days in a small space just because she was unable to account for N17,500 that belonged to her employer. “This is barbaric, to say the least, in this time and age that inhuman treatment meted out to slaves in the 17th and 18th centuries can be deployed against a Nigerian citizen in the 21st century.” Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state police command, confirmed the incident and added that the hotel’s manager had been taken into custody. Police Superintendent Iringe-Koko responded, “Yes, I can confirm. The hotel’s manager has been taken into custody. The inquiry is ongoing. source: https://samsunblog.com/2023/06/24/hotel-worker-in-rivers-dies-allegedly-from-torture-manager-is-detained/ |
