Oxlade, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, has described how he sold tickets and food as a source of living after running away from home.

Oxlade said he ran away from his home to pursue a music career and had to sell tickets for buses, which is a job that motor park touts do, commonly called "agbero".

Oxlade revealed in an interview that his father, who is a professor at a university, never supported his musical career.

He said: "Honestly, he [my dad] was indifferent at first. But my stubbornness and consistency paid off [laughs].

“I ran away from the house at some point in my life to pursue music personally. And I had to do all sorts of stuff to survive. Selling bus tickets and selling foods at parties.”

Advising the youth, the artist said, “if you can survive in Surulere, you can survive anywhere.”
