As rescuers continue to look for survivors, more than 11,000 people were killed in powerful earthquakes that struck along the border between Turkey and Syria.

Officials and doctors reported that 8,574 people died in Turkey, and 2,662 in Syria. This brings the total to 11,236.

Over 24 countries have sent rescue teams to join the local emergency services. Aid from all over the globe is being offered for the relief of Syria and Turkey during this time.

According to AP reports many people are still waiting for help because of the magnitude and extent of the aftershocks from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake and its powerful aftershocks.

The bodies were laid side-by-side in the Turkish city of Malatya and covered with blankets while rescuers waited for the funeral vehicles to pick them up.

Aid agencies and emergency workers say the death toll is likely to increase further with many people still trapped under the rubble, and freezing weather conditions hampering rescue efforts.
