A 29-year-old man was sentenced by the Sokoto State High Court to one-year imprisonment and an option of N150,000 fine for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

In a statement on Thursday, January 12, 2023, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP), stated that the convict Sanusi Kassim of Minanata Sabin Gari Tudun Wada was charged for procurement for the purpose of sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old female on a three-count charge, contrary and punishable under section 16 (1) of the Trafficking in Person (Prohibition) and administration Act, 2015.

He was sentenced to one-year imprisonment on each of the three count charge or to pay a fine of 50,000 Naira on each of the counts.

Hon. Justice Isah Mohammed Bargaja. who passed the judgment on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, also awarded compensation of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand naira to the victim.
