Rivers government filed a new criminal case against Rotimi Amaechi, ex-minister of transportation and former governor of the state, and Tonye Cole, governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state.

Rivers attorney-general Zacchaeus Adangor confirmed the lawsuit during an interview with ThisDay. He accused the politicians of selling state assets.

The lawsuit comes after Governor Nyesom Wike created a seven-man panel to investigate Amaechi over the alleged withdrawal of N96 billion from the state's treasury during Amaechi's tenure as governor.

The panel examined issues related to the sale of Omoku Gas Turbine, Afam Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine, Olympia Hotel, and the contract award for the execution of the Mono Rail Project.
