On Friday, December 9, a fire broke out on the campus of Lagos State University (LASU), in Ojo, Lagos.

According to reports, the fire was caused by a power surge that affected seven offices.

The Directorate of Internal Audit; the Bursar's office; Risk Insurance & Investment, Bursar Mini Registry & Reception; Payroll & Pension Unit; Budget & Budgetary Control, and the Deputy Director's Office were all affected.

The preliminary report of the state emergency management agency (LASEMA), indicated that the fire broke out in the Directorate of Internal Audit (Property Management unit) office on the 4th floor.

Permanent Secretary of LASEMA Dr. Olufemi Oke Osanyintolu stated that while no lives were lost, the Directorate office was severely affected by the inferno.

Oke-Osanyintolu: "The fire damage has extended to some of the ceiling claddings. The fire was promptly put out by the Lagos Fire Service and Agency responders.

"A post-disaster risk assessment is ongoing with a view to identifying any potential hazards and secondary incident."

LASEMA boss said after the post-disaster risk was conducted, it was concluded that "there is no threat of any possible ignition to any of the office."

"The members of staff were sensitized on safety and precautionary measures needed to avoid such incident," he added.
