Suspected armed robber arrested for killing his gang member in Oyo by ayodeji11(m) : 4:13 am On Nov 26, 2022

Ajibola Akinpelu (48), was remanded at the Correctional Centre in Ibadan by the Iyaganku Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 November for the armed robbery and murder of his gang member.

Akinpelu is currently being tried on five counts of conspiracy, armed theft, and murder.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Akande, did not take the defendant's plea for want of jurisdiction.

Akande directed the police to turn the case file over to the Director for Public Prosecutions, (DPP), for legal advice. He adjourned it until Jan. 10, 2023, for further mention.

The prosecutor, Mr. Philip Amusan told the court earlier that the defendant and his accomplices allegedly committed the offenses on Sept. 10, between 10:30 pm and 2:30 am, in the Egbeda region, Ibadan.

Amusan claimed that Mohammed Adamu was robbed by the defendant and his gang members while they were armed with guns, cutlasses, and knives.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also on Sept. 11, killed one of his gang members, Gbenga Iroko, during a robbery operation, deposited his body at the Lagos State Accident and Emergency center, and fled.

He further alleged that the defendant allegedly sold charms to his gang members for fortification against arrest.

He said the offenses contravened Sections 6 B, and 1(2)(a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004.

Amusan said the crimes also contravened Sections 213 of the Criminal Laws of Nigeria, 1990, and Section 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
