Bitrus Umoru, a police inspector has died from injuries he sustained in a gun battle with ISWAP members in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.

Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in Lake Chad said the suspected ISWAP fighters raided a divisional police command in the village in a convoy of gun trucks and motorbikes last Sunday at about 12:35pm.

According to a source close to the operation, the attack triggered a gun battle between the police operatives and the terrorist.

Makama reported that the police team was able to resist the attack but the inspector was shot in the stomach and right leg.

ISWAP claimed they killed two police officers during the attack and that their fighters also set fire to a police car.

Makama, however, confirmed the news on Tuesday, November 8th, and said that Inspector Umoru was the only one who died in the attack.
