The Ogun state police command arrested Olamide Olabode, a notorious member of the dreaded Eiye Confraternity who was on his way with his group to launch an attack.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi (command spokesperson) confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody on October 23rd at the Oke Iganmu area on Ilaro/Papalanto roads. The patrol team from the Ilaro division was conducting routine patrols of the area when they spotted the suspect along with two other men on a Bajaj motorcycle.

According to Oyeyemi the suspect who was sitting at the back quickly jumped down from the motorcycle and ran into the bush with a bag.

“He was hotly chased and arrested, while the other two sped off on the motorcycle. On searching the bag with him, two locally made short guns, four live cartridges, one knife, and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered therein.

On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a leading member of the Eiye cult group, and that they were heading to Agodo village for an operation” Oyeyemi stated.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to anti cultist unit of the State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
