Five people died when a storey building housing people displaced by flood collapsed in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.

It happened in Ayah community in the early hours on Thursday, October 27.

Onalo Achimugu (Community Development Officer of Ibaji) confirmed that the incident occurred and stated that there were four deceased females as well as one male.

According to reports, it was said that the victims sought refuge in the building's three-story storeys as they waited for the flood waters to recede before returning to their various homes.
"At about 1:00 am today, some of the Ibaji LGA flood victims living in one of the storey buildings in Ayah Camp, Ibaji LGA, lost their lives, while others were wounded," Achimugwu said in a statement.

He said that some of the victims were taken to Irrua in Edo State and others to Idah with the permission of Iko-Ojo Obiora the chairman of local government.
