After an overloaded passenger vessel sank in Shagari Local Gov Area of Sokoto State, 14 people were confirmed dead.

AFP was told by a local official that 11 men and three women were on their way to an event commemorating the birth of Prophet Mohammed when the accident occurred. Local divers rescued 10 more passengers, he said.

“We recovered the bodies of the 14 victims and buried them yesterday (Wednesday),” the administrator of Shagari district, Alyu Abubakar Dantani said.
