Men of the Lagos state police command have arrested one Laenenae Halicani for allegedly beheading a four-year-old child who was earlier declared missing.

The child's mother, Talwa Shode, a resident of 7, Mangoro Street, Agege, had visited the Isokoko Division to report that her son was missing. Hours after visiting the police station, the child was found headless in a canal in the Ashade area of Agege.

Following investigations by the police, Halicani was apprehended. After he was rescued from a mob that almost lynched him, he reportedly confessed that he killed him.

“About three hours after the woman reported that her son was missing, heavily-armed youths were seen beating a man with bruises all over his body accused of being the prime suspect behind the missing child.

The police rescued the suspect. Hours later, the patrol team on surveillance recovered the decomposing, beheaded body of the missing child from a canal at Ashade area'' a source told The Nation

Continuing, the source said the child’s mother usually slept in an open space with three others at the address.

Asked why he beheaded the child, the suspect, it was gathered, could not give any good reason and kept saying “I killed him.”

The suspect who was transferred to Area C, Ogba, was yesterday moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.
