A legal counsel to the The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Femi Falana stirred reactions on social media on Thursday after revealing that the academic union is heading to court to sue Federal Government over the recent registration of factional unions.



He made the revelation during live interview of the Channels Television. "ASUU is going to court. It is going to be the NIC". Meanwhile, the ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke has aslo confirmed the development in a chat with correspondent.


It would be recalled that following the disagreement between the FG and ASUU, Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, presented certificate of registrations to two factional bodies.

They include the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics. However, controversies, mixed reactions have been trailing the move.

Many claimed that it is a bid to weaken the influence of the union. Recall that ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022, as lecturers of public universities protest unpaid allowances and demand better welfare package from the Federal Government.
