Okafor Emmanuel Junior, an ex-footballer was arrested by Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at the Murtala Muhammed Internaional Airport, Ikeja Lagos on his arrival from Brazil via Addis Ababa on board an Ethiopian airline. He was caught with 1.40kg cracks of cocaine hidden in his bag.

Femi Babafemi (spokesman for the agency) stated that the 33-year old indigene from Arochukwu, Abia State was detained on Monday 26 September 2022 by anti-narcotic officers after they discovered that he had concealed the illegal substance in his bags and padding the edges with the class A drug.

During preliminary interview, Okafor disclosed that he used to play football for the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH Enugu Football Club) before he left for Sri Lanka in 2014.

Further, he stated that he had moved from Sri Lanka to Brazil after playing for two seasons. However, he could not further his football career in Brazil because a lack of official documentation.
