Oyo State Government described the claim by Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State, that he was present at Saturday's rally in Ibadan organized by Peter Obi supporters, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, as a "compelling falsehood."

Taiwo Adisa Makinde's Chief Press Secretary stated this in a statement that he made to refute the claim that Makinde was part of the rally of supporters for Peter Obi (also known as 'Obidients').

Adisa stated that his principal has yet to return from his annual leave to Nigeria and could therefore not have taken part in the Ibadan Obidients.

The statement stated: "Our attention was drawn to an internet publication, which indicated Governor Makinde had been spotted among Obidients at a rally held in Ibadan on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

“To say the least, the publication is a falsehood, packaged to deceive the unsuspecting.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Makinde was nowhere near Ibadan when the said rally held. A Yoruba adage says one person cannot stand in twos. How is it possible for the governor who was observing the last days of his leave outside the country to be spotted among the so-called Obidients in Ibadan?

“While we will not begrudge the Obidients’ desire to propagate their candidate, we will not oblige anyone the luxury of dragging the reputation of the Governor of Oyo State on accounts of false claims.”
