Nigeria's federal government has called for Iran to strengthen its military cooperation with Nigeria.

Bashir Magashi (Minister of Defence) made the call when he received the Iranian ambassador to Nigeria, Mohammed Alibak, on Wednesday, August 24.

During the meeting, the minister stated that both countries would benefit from a stronger collaboration.

Mohammad Abdulkadir, the special assistant to the minister quoted him as saying that Nigeria's true allies are now more important than ever as it fights multiple threats against its territorial integrity.

Minister expressing gratitude for the suggestions for improving military relations between Nigeria and Iran, he was quoted as saying that a "friend in need is a friend indeed ".

Mohammed Alibak, the Iranian ambassador thanked the minister for his strategic direction. This would allow him to refine a strategy and create synergy in the new partnership with Nigeria.

Albak said he would key into the new plans, which includes a visit to Iran by the Nigerian delegation in order to evaluate the fighting equipment Iran offers to Nigeria.
